Amb. Garza Signs Agreement to Combat Trafficking in Persons

Under the agreement, the United States will allocate over three million dollars to fund two government-to-government projects to establish trafficking in persons (sexual exploitation and forced labor against women and children) investigation groups, and technical assistance and a trafficking in persons technical sub-group.

Ambassador Garza and Mexico's Foreign Relations Under Secretary for North American Affairs Geronimo Gutierrez met on Aug. 19, 2005, to sign an agreement to implement cooperative programs against trafficking in persons across borders and related crimes.

On signing the agreement, Ambassador Garza stated that "through this program, the United States Government will support Mexico with equipment, training and instruction in three basic areas: research, prevention and assitance to victims".
