Amb. Garza observes elections in Mexico City

On July 2, 2006, Ambassador Garza visited polling places in Iztapalapa, Lomas de Chapultepec, and Cuauhtémoc; ninety-five observers from the U.S Embassy and Consulates in Mexico, along with international observers from countries around the world, visited polling sites around the country to witness democracy in action.

Among the facilities visited by Amb. Garza was the Frida Kahlo School in Iztapalapa, Mexico City. Here, Ambassador Garza discusses details of the operation with another international observer.

Father voting with son

"I was especially touched as I watched a father walk from the voting booth with his young son... it occurred to me that that father had just taught his young son the importance of our most precious civic duty," remarked Amb. Garza.

“I believe that the actions of Mexico’s current administration, the political parties, and the transparency of its election-monitoring body, the IFE, will further strengthen civic pride and Mexico’s place in the world as a prime example of the world’s strong democracies,” concluded the Ambassador.
