No appointment is required to replace a lost/stolen
passport. Americans seeking to replace a lost/stolen
passport may appear at the Embassy during any business
day (8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) |
General Information: The Passport &
Citizenship Office of the Embassy accepts passport applications
and provides additional passport pages. All passport applicants
must apply in person. To request an appointment, please
email your completed forms and contact information to
MexicoCitypassport@state.gov.
You may locate the appropriate forms in the relevant
section below.
If you are unable to complete the form on-line or follow
these instructions due to a physical handicap or other
reason, please call [52](55) 5080−2000, ext. 4635 or
4326, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In most cases, all original documents submitted by the applicant
in support of the application will be returned to the applicant
on the same day. Previous passports will generally be cancelled
and returned to the applicant. The new passports will be available
in approximately three weeks. A messenger service will deliver
the new passport to an address within Mexico as indicated
on the application for a nominal charge payable upon delivery.
Passport book vs. passport card: As of February
1, 2008, U.S. citizens may apply in advance for the new U.S.
Passport Card, in anticipation of land border travel document
requirements. We expect cards will be available and mailed
to applicants in spring 2008. The passport card will facilitate
entry and expedite document processing at U.S. land and sea
ports-of-entry when arriving from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean
and Bermuda. The card may not be used to travel by
air. It will otherwise carry the rights and privileges
of the U.S. passport book and will be adjudicated to the exact
same standards.
The Department of State is issuing this passport card in
response to the needs of border resident communities for a
less expensive and more portable alternative to the traditional
passport book. The card will have the same validity period
as a passport book: 10 years for an adult, five for children
15 and younger. For adults who already have a passport book,
they may apply for the card as a passport renewal and pay
only $20. First-time applicants will pay $45 for adult cards
and $35 for children. (Click on the following to see the difference
between a passport card and a passport book)

under age 16, if one of the parents cannot be present,
one parent appears, signs, and submits the second parent's
notarized Form
DS-3053 (Statement of Consent: Issuance of a Passport
to a Minor Under Age 16) authorizing passport
issuance for the child. Alternatively, a notarized,
written statement of consent in English from the non-appearing
parent (including the child's name and date of birth,
as well as parent's identification information or a
copy of his/her ID) authorizing passport issuance for
the child may be submitted on behalf of the non-appearing
parent. A copy of a government-issued photo ID of the
non-appearing parent is also required. Consents are
only valid for 90 days from the date when the document
was notarized.
Amendments: Since September 26, 2005, as
an additional security enhancement, Passport Services no longer
amends valid passports. Instead, customers requesting name
changes, extension of validity for limited passports, or correction
of a printing error must apply for replacement passports.
If the change is within one year after issuance,
they will submit a U.S. Passport Re-Application
Form (DS 5504),together with the passport that
needs the change, the documentation required, and new passport
pictures. There will be no charge for routine processing.
If the change is more than one year after issuance,
customers will need to submit an Application
for Passport By Mail (DS-82), together with the
passport that needs the change, the documentation required,
and new pictures. The cost includes the $55 application fee
and $20 security surcharge, for a total of $75 for routine
processing. Of course, if the requested data change is due
to a printing error by Passport Services, there will be no
charge.
Those only needing to add visa pages to their passports will
submit an Application
for Additional Visa Pages (DS-4085). This service
is always free of charge when routine.
All of these forms are available online by clicking on their
numbers. The Passport Amendment/Validation Form (DS-19), previously
used to amend passports, will no longer be valid. (Working
Hours)
