Ambassador Garza Lauds Partnership to Aid Critically Ill Children

Mexico City, June 17, 2005 – “This new alliance between Medical Missions for Children and the Telethon Center for the Rehabilitation of Children (CRIT) will provide critically ill children access to medical knowledge and expertise beyond what is available in their communities, ” said U.S. Ambassador Tony Garza during a visit to the CRIT Hospital in Tlalnepantla this morning where he witnessed the signing of an agreement between the two organizations.

The agreement allows physicians at CRIT hospitals to consult with medical specialists in the United States using sophisticated satellite technology that facilitates discussion, diagnosis, and treatment of severely ill Mexican children.

President of the Telethon Foundation Fernando Landeros and Medical Missions Chairman and Founder Frank Brady along with representatives from the CRIT hospital attended the signing ceremony and toured the facilities. Guests were able to observe a satellite link-up with Guadalajara.

Medical Missions for Children is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the medical needs of catastrophically ill children in underserved U.S. and international communities. Through the use of satellite and internet-based technology—the Global Telemedicine and Teaching Network—Medical Missions facilitates the treatment of remote, critically ill children in 36 countries. Medical Missions’ network also broadcasts an extensive program of continuing medical education and supports dialogue exchange among a global network of medical specialists.

The people of the United States, through the U.S. Mission to Mexico have contributed $1 million dollars in support of Medical Missions’ activities throughout the globe.

“Using state–of–the-art technology, children waiting for critical medical care are now only a teleconference away from the most experienced physicians in the United States,” added the Ambassador.
