Ambassador Presents “Hilos del Cielo” to First Lady Margarita

Statement by Ambassador Antonio O. Garza
 Mexico City, November 30, 2007 – “Today, together with my
wife Mariasun, it was my pleasure to present First Lady Margarita
Zavala with one of the first copies of a very special book,
‘Hilos del Cielo.’ This beautiful book documents sacred vestments
from the Sacristy of the Metropolitan Cathedral in Mexico
City, which for too long have been in storage and out of the
public view.
On a visit to Mexico City as a child, I was fascinated by
the Cathedral and I have always felt a great sense of peace
and inspiration there. Now as Ambassador of the United States,
I have had the privilege of working together with partners
at Deutsche Bank and Laboratorios Sanfer to shed light on
some of the Cathedral’s most beautiful and unique treasures
through the publication of this book.
‘Hilos del Cielo’ is full of captivating
photographs by Francisco Kochen and vibrant descriptions by
historian Virginia Armella de Aspe. Presenting ‘Hilos
del Cielo’ to the First Lady was a great honor. I hope
this book is received by the Mexican people with a token of
my esteem and gratitude for the blessings bestowed upon me
during my time in Mexico.”
