FBI Director Meets with Mexican Law Enforcement Authorities
Statement by Ambassador Antonio O. Garza
Mexico City, December 11, 2008 - “The unprecedented level
of cooperation between Mexico and United States law enforcement
agencies was reinforced today by meetings between the Director
of our Federal Bureau of Investigation, Robert S. Mueller,
Mexican Attorney General Eduardo Medina Mora, Secretary of
Public Security Genaro Garcia Luna, Secretary of Governance
Fernando Gomez Mont, and CISEN Director Guillermo Valdes.
“Director Mueller met with his Mexican counterparts to discuss
ongoing cooperation both in our common fight against narco-traffickers
and in efforts to identify and detain criminal fugitives in
both countries. Regular coordination at all levels, from police
in the field to those leading law-enforcement agencies in
our two countries, has led to tremendous progress in hunting
down, arresting and convicting criminals wanted for offenses
ranging from drug trafficking and murder to fraud and intellectual
property theft.
“The fight against organized crime is among the most important
challenges we face together as partners. Meetings like those
today ensure that we remain on the same page, coordinated
in our efforts to take down the cartels and mafias that operate
on both sides of the border. I am confident this cooperation
will continue to strengthen and grow under the administration
of President-elect Obama.”
