March 12, 2007 Dear Friends and Colleagues: Today, I’m in Mérida for President Bush’s visit to Mexico, the last stop on the President’s working visits through Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia and Guatemala. An incredible Mission wide effort has gone into these bilateral meetings, and I’m looking forward to a productive and open dialogue between our two nations. Regarding the trip, I also thought you might be interested in my op-ed that appeared in this morning’s El Universal newspaper on President Bush’s leadership in the Western hemisphere. Click on this link to read the full text of an op-ed on Leadership in the Hemisphere Last week, nations around the world celebrated International Women’s Day 2007, a day to remember that the empowerment of women is deeply intertwined with the safety, security and prosperity of all societies. I was privileged to attend an event at Los Pinos hosted by President Calderon to commemorate the day and to witness the signing of the Acuerdo Nacional para la Igualdad entre Mujeres y Hombres. As always, I thank you for your interest in the activities of our U.S. mission to Mexico. May God bless both our countries. With best wishes, I am, Sincerely,
